Disclosures & privacy

The medical disclaimer, how links to providers work, and the privacy practices that apply to everything on DiscoverMedica.

Medical disclaimer

DiscoverMedica is an educational health journal. We are not a pharmacy, clinic, telehealth provider or medical practice, and we do not sell, prescribe or dispense anything. Information on this site is general, may be incomplete, and is not medical advice. It does not tell you what to take or how much. Always talk to a licensed clinician before starting, stopping or changing any medication or supplement.

Compounds labelled “Research only” are not approved for human use in the United States. We describe them for education and do not link to anyone selling them.

Affiliate & links disclosure

Some links to providers may be affiliate links, and DiscoverMedica may be compensated if you choose that provider. Compensation never affects a compound’s regulatory status, its evidence rating or which providers are listed, and research-only compounds are never linked to sellers. Provider links go through /go and never carry your list or any health information.

Privacy

  • My Journal is stored in your own browser (localStorage). We do not receive it.
  • When you share, the list is encoded into the link after the “#”. Browsers do not send that part of a URL to servers, so the list is not in our logs. Anyone with the link can read it, so share it the way you would share a document.
  • First visit checklist ticks are stored in your browser the same way, and never sent to us.
  • Links to providers pass through /go, which counts each click on our own server. For each click we store the time, the provider, the listed product the link was for, the kind of page you clicked from (for example a compound page or your journal), a one-word note of how you arrived on the site this visit (search, an AI assistant, social, email, another site or direct), whether your browser looks like an automated crawler, whether it sent Global Privacy Control, and a random click code. We do not store your IP address or browser details, set a cookie, or keep anything that identifies you. The link never carries your list or any health information. The arrival note is kept in this tab’s session storage until you close it.
  • The random click code stays in our database, and its copy there is cleared after 180 days. It is added to a link only for a provider we have a referral agreement with, so that provider can tell us a referral happened. The code says nothing about you or what you looked at, and any such agreement bars the provider from using it for advertising. No provider on DiscoverMedica has a referral agreement, so no link carries the code. Some providers send links through an affiliate network, which, like any website you visit, sees your browser’s connection.
  • We count a few actions as daily totals in our own database: starting My Journal, adding an item, choosing a provider, copying a share link, printing My Journal, starting to sign in, and following a next-step link. Each total records only the day, the action, the kind of page it happened on and, for some actions, a rough size of your list (such as “2 to 3 items”). It never records which compound, provider or page, and it uses no analytics company, cookie or identifier. The totals are never shared or sold.
  • If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, it sends us no action counts and no arrival note, and /go never adds a referral code to your links. The click itself is still counted at /go as described above, marked as coming from a browser with Global Privacy Control. You can also switch counting off for this browser below.
  • Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages see your IP address in order to respond. We do not add it to any of the counts above.
  • We use no advertising trackers, pixels, third-party analytics or third-party scripts, and we will never sell or reuse health information for advertising.

Counting is on. It stores daily totals only, never anything that identifies you.
